I have this theory.
You know those chain SMSes you receive asking you to "forward to XX number of people!" or "I just wanted to let you know you are.. so send this to them to let them know you...!" or, how about the recent SMS that was highlighted in the newspaper a few days ago, the "Parade-kidnapping incident". There was Ipoh Parade, Subang Parade, Saujana Parade.. All sorts of Parade lar.
And there was another one saying this :
"a UM girl, Heng Man Wai, hv been kidnaped by 3 malay guys at Bukit Bintang, if u c a Silver Waja, WEK 9348, pls contact Mr Heng, 017-8399784 Pls forward!" - Mr Definite,KennySia.com chatterbox
And another on Wednesday about a dude being kidnapped as well.
Well, my theory is.. These SMSes, particularly the ones saying "forward to XX number of people!" or "I just wanted to let you know you are.. so send this to them to let them know you...!", come from service providers like Maxees or DeeGee or SellKom etc. to generate profits. They send out one SMS and make money like crazy later. The more times it is forwarded the more money they make, right?
It's just a theory. However, there could be just some shita$$ person who became so free, that he/she decided to send these messages for pure fun or they just simply want to show teir friends they love'em.
Somehow the second theory seems to be more likely.

uh ya
i was wondering wheter do u read de newspaper? those cases are true..and there's this case where a 12 year old kid got taken away by a 30 year + guy .. once de parents found out they actually sms to one and another then once de kidnapper also hav de message , den he's scared... however the girl had been sent home safetly
OKAY....It just occured to me (since you've mentioned it). I wasn't thinking of that article when I typed this post.
In fact, I read the article and actually completely forgotten about it...
Perhaps not those (SMSes of kidnappings) as those must be given benefit of the doubt.
Not to forget, msgs concerning friendship and all. If there really is a conspiracy regarding the forwarding of SMSes, then someone IS exploiting humans' dependency on mobile technology.
O.O english plz
In English:
smses regarding safety can be true and it can also be false.
Not to focus only on smses regarding safety issues, we have to consider smses that ask us to forward-if-you're-my-friend sort.
If Deng's (not hers lar, i bet tons pf ppl thought about that liao) theory is true, then the mobile providers are unethical.
