Something is wrong. I'm feeling so proud of myself this morning. *chuckles*
Here's an email I wrote last night in reply to Dad's email. Contents contributed by Deng, Hwey & Edwin.
...
Dad's email to us:
Deng and Hwey,
From your work in girl scout (can you believe it?! Girl Scouts!), for picnic (and since when do we do picnics?!) and mountain climbing…
What precaution and fun activities we should include… (His company is organizing a family day)
Please share with me your ideas..
...
My response:
Dad,
First of all.. we are not GIRL SCOUTS. We are in SCOUTS with a co-ed troop. And we never have done picnics. In the family when we were young, sure. But not in SCOUTS.
Mountain climbing: Bring salt to ward off leeches. Example, if you find a leech hanging on to you, sprinkle some salt over it. It'll release immediately.
And when you are climbing, make sure you have at least a free hand. To latch on to stuff if you fall.
The basics is to wear comfortable shoes lor.. Safety first and all. And make sure not just one person knows first aid.
And bring a change of clothes wrapped in plastic so you'll have an emergency pair should anything happen. Travel light, too.
And please do not leave the women to walk behind. A nice, big, strong man at the back and front will be nice.
Err.. what else? Be aware of your surroundings?
Take frequent rests if your team members cannot go on.
Communicate. Make sure no one becomes a lone ranger and goes traipsing alone. Especially the little ones.
Bring a bag that has a flashlight, water and power bars in it, just in case you get lost. Compass, too.
Activities: One syok activity you guys can do is BBQing. Wahahaha.. Make your own skewers! Build your own fire! Gives you a sense of accomplishment. Damn fun.
Can play tug of war... very fun. But the grounds are not suitable. Unless you can find good solid grounds la.. Not soil and grass. As for the rope, you can either buy it or I'll see if the scouts would be happy to lend them to you. Have to pay deposit and write a formal letter la, of course. If the other committee members have children in scouts, you can ask them to inquire as well.
If you want, paintball would be fun, too. Skirmish (http://www.skirmish.com.my/events.htm) does paintball event management, they can help you out with the paintball stuff. Negotiate la.
Scavenger hunt. Find five live leeches!! hahaHAhAHaHahah.... (Hwey wants five live, FULL leeches!)
Twister. At the end of the day, when everyone is smelly. HAhAhHAHahahah... I'm serious, you know! Not the "end of the day" part la.. I haven't play twister before.
Family game. A game scouts, rangers, and guides play in campfires. Got bodily contact la. But since everybody is related, no problem! You'll need a chair. We usually use plastic chairs
Basically, you have teams consisting of Mother, Father, Brother and Sister. They will have to execute the moves the host, which is another person, says. For example, "Father sit on chair. Mother sit on Father's lap. Brother under the chair. Sister on Mother's lap." So everyone does what they are supposed to do. After the marshalls check, the host goes on to the next move. The moves can get increasingly tougher like, "Everyone stand on the chair!". So if a team fails to execute the moves, they're out.
Catering: See if you guys wanna do pot luck or not. Ma fan a bit, but very homely. 'Cause I'm not sure who will cater to FRIM. Unless, you order and pick up yourself.
Miscellaneous: If you guys want, you can actually call a St. John's ambulance to stand by and all.
I know Prudential kinda has this one-day insurance thing la. You guys check la.
Prizes, get sponsors la. Electronics like, phones or mp3 players and whatnot. If can get la, 'cause if prizes are attractive, more participation lor..
Tshirts would be nice. But please do not make everyone wear it. Cool looking designs la..
Maintenance. Clean up after yourselves. Black rubbish bags!!
This is all I have for now. So... Am I in the committee?????
Regards.
