A DIY Miniskirt

One night, I just had this sudden urge to make a miniskirt according to instructions from one of Seventeen's pages (Feb 2007, D.I.Y. Chic, pg. 42).



Old jeans.



Mine were thick jeans, so it got a bit difficult when sewing. But still works.

Sewing kit.



Big ass pair of vintage scissors.






Step 1:
Cut the legs off depending on how long you want the skirt to be.



First snip! I've never cut clothes before. I feel a sense of destruction when I do. As if I'm spoiling things. Makes me feel bad lo.

Tada!




Step 2:
Cut the inner seams.



Think about which side of the seam you cut and how you cut it first, cause mine turned out disastrous. I spent about two hours plus on Step 4. Just imagine, if you cut here, how would it look like etc.


Step 3:
Sew the two sides together so it becomes a skirt.





I sewed mine this way, because when I did Step 2, I did it without thinking how I was supposed to sew them together. So I imagined and experimented. And I cut and cut and cut.

So, for the front, I cut from the crotch up to the zipper fabric thing. The really thick part. And the back, from the crotch all the way to the 'T back'. HaHaha. Where it meets la. Experiment yourselves la.

You may choose to use pins to pin them in place before sewing.

There'll be 'extra' fabric because you have to pull the two sides together. So it'll look kinda bunched up. Try to fold or sew your way into making it look better.


Step 4:
Fray the bottom of the skirt to make it look 'deconstructed and unfinished' (Seventeen, Feb 2007).


Optional:
The mag suggests "lace at the bottom of your skirt as embellishment." Or a "flower brooch with dangly trinkets."
