The taste is fine. Quite alright actually. A little fizzy for my liking, but otherwise fine.
It's a ring-shaped, artificially-flavoured, hard candy. Like good ol' POLO mints. As you can see, I ate half a stick already.

What I don't like about it is the aluminium foil roll. Apparently it is known for their "distinctive packaging", which is the foil. (Wikipedia, 2009)
Allow me to digress a little. If I were to reference Wikipedia, which doesn't have a last updated or created date, only a last modified date (which is the date you saw the article, technically), do I put "2009" or "n.d."?
Back to Life Savers.
I don't like the packaging. I absolutely hate it. When you open up the outer wrapping (paper), it tears easily. Maybe the glue's too tough. I thought I could use the paper wrapping to protect the candy from deadly contents in my bag.
And the aluminium foil!! OmG.
It sticks to the candy so much, you have to use your nails to peel/scrape it off. And because it's thin and frail, it breaks off so easily that there are small pieces of foil still sticking to the candy and unable to get off. I've eaten some because I couldn't stand wasting my time getting sticky fingers and a melted sweet.
I thought I'd go to the Nestle website to provide some feedback (I seem to be doing a lot of that lately), but NOoOoOoOooOo. They don't seem to have the product there at all. It says on the packaging that it's made in NZ. So I tried the international webbie. But to no avail. (<-- I haven't used this phrase in a long time, I don't even know if it's correct.. Wotevaaaaa.)
Well, I'm not getting me any Life Savers anymore. Time to chew some good ol' gum.
I'm thinking of having a niche blog. How about reviews for candy? XD

Check the update history of the wiki page.
niche blog would be a good idea. being practical: buy a stick of candy (whichevers cheaper) try one or two, write a review then give/share the rest with friends. one candy review a week? the other days can be candy news and facts or uses in cooking/baking. I saw a pic of a rock climbing themed cake, someone used m&ms as coloured climbing stones... and coloured icing/cream to draw a climber. it was really good.
What about the history??
Serious ah?? I was actually joking. I'd get fat just by running a niche blog.
But I'll consider. HaHa.
I think you should put it in refrigerator before you consume it so the sweet won't melt and stick with the aluminum foil.
