1. Less carbs [Askmen.com]. The body goes through something called "ketosis". That's where your body uses fat as energy instead of all the carbs you usually take in. Think of an emaciated lil thing. Yep.
Consuming large amounts of carbs raises blood glucose levels, which are balanced out with insulin. But insulin also acts as a storage hormone, which conditions the body to store future carbs as fat in adipose cells in case of starvation. Furthermore, insulin also incites the cells not to release the stored fat.
So the whole idea is to consume less carbs so your body doesn't tell itself to store fat.
2. Keep moving [TV program in Australia]. They did an experiment on this radio deejay where they got her to go about her daily errands and recorded how much calories she burnt. So she did her laundry, had lunch with her friends, took the bus to work, sat around a whole bunch.
On the other hand, they got her to do change her lifestyle a bit. To keep moving. She walked up and down her stairs more often, walked to lunch, got down at an earlier stop and walked the rest of the way, and moved about in the studio a whole lot.
She burnt more calories moving about than not. If she kept it up for a year, she could lose some weight. Easy!
3. Exercise [TV program in Australia]. They did an experiment on the host where they got him to run a hour and half in the morning. They recorded the calories burnt. It was minimal. But when he came back the next morning, no running, he recorded a high in burnt calories. That's because the body continues to burn calories after a workout.
4. Weight training [Askmen.com]. I read that including weight training in your exercise routine helps burn more fat than having a dull, monotonous jog everyday. It seems that your body will learn to recognise that you're just going through the same thing day-in, day-out, hence, assimilating itself to the routine. Like how you chew on the left side more because of an aching tooth, hence you keep it to the left EVERY SINGLE TIME.
So it's encouraged to mix it up a lil to make your body not anticipate the workout.
