Keyword: System freeze, Dell, Inspiron 1564, white noise, AC adaptor buzzing, worst policy ever (Refurbished parts fail. Further replacements fail. A whole new system problematic).
Didn't I say that the system freeze got worse? Yep. So I communicated with Dell Support and they suggest I run a Dell 32-bit Diagnostic using the Drivers and Utilities CD and report back.
Fine.
Followed instructions and got to 32-bit Diagnostic. Video memory tests were running, visuals were flickering (due to monitor not supporting resolution) and boom! (not literally, flower buds) Screen goes blank and laptop emits white noise. I'd say it was amplified, but Hwey says the sounds System emits doesn't correspond to the volume control. So I guess it was a normal sound.
Made four further attempts and all ended up the same. Attempt 4, I went to Test Memory instead of Test System, and Attempt 5, I ran diagnostics from the laptop instead of the CD. Attempt 5 made it the farthest to Graphics Mode Test.
Jumped out of my seat five times in total tonight. Even though I was expecting the noise. Enough shock for the week. Thank you.
Sigh. Is it the supplier? Although I'm aware most manufacturers use the same ones. Or is it company policies to use refurbished parts? Hard to argue la this one. A brand new system with brand new parts also can have problems. So maybe it really is the supplier. Or could be the assembly process. And OMG, don't forget sheer bad luck.
The amount of time, effort, and electricity to run those tests.. In Malaysia no less! Air con is turned on longer than usual. Unhappy customer right here.
Okay. The AC doesn't play that big a part in my being unhappy. I'm just sayin'. Two laptops successively have problems with display/video. Says something about their design maybe? Or maybe it's my bad luck.
