EMI stands for Electromagnetic interference(EMI). It exists in electrical devices, as well as lightning, and can disrupt other signals like your radio reception.
Think, computer and cellphones. Or radio and cellphones. Or digital piano and cellphones. You get the picture. They emit terrible noises too.
Therefore, the invention of the EMI filter... or shielding. Both the same.
